Hello Heart of Carolina,

It was wonderful to see those who came to our educational dinner meeting this month! I am so excited we were able to get CEUs for our time learning about nasal decolonization and preventing infections. Our HOC board and I discussed last year making sure that the time and money you put into this chapter is returned to in the form of professional growth and evidence based treatments to help you while caring for people. This is something I will be focusing on extensively as we continue throughout Q1 of our 2024 plan for growth.

I included an updated calendar to show how we are aiming to grow our community of critical care nurses. It shows where and when events are occurring over the next three months to best help you plan ahead of time. These events we host are all free to you as an active member of the AACN and the HOC. If for any reason you cannot commit to a membership we ask that you reach out to me [noahdegen@gmail.com] privately so that you can see all the wonderful things we set up beforehand. Our chapter wants to have as many ambitious people to connect with and learn from.

One exciting thing we are offering in the month of February and March is a free CCRN overview and review. I will be going over what I learned from taking the CCRN and briefly go over each system to help those who are interested in becoming incredibly proficient in their practice. The CCRN is an amazing exam that really encourages one to think about the WHY behind critical care nursing. You will become adept at recognizing problems in your daily practice having studied for this exam. The questions you ask and concerns you bring to the providers from having a deeper insight WILL SAVE LIVES. I can recount many of occasions in which having taken the CCRN had prompted me to ask the right question at the right time. This helps you and it helps your patients.

I will post an official event in this same format so that you can reserve a seat. I look forward to seeing many of you there!

For the board members, and anyone curious about being involved in the direction of the chapter, please make time to join me on the second floor in Mellow Mushroom at 1009 Gervais St. for a board meeting. I will start roughly around 1800 on the 21st of Feb., I will post an event for this as well.

I am excited for this quarter, and know many of you are as well! Have a wonderful month of February and I will see you all soon.
